Discussion and Collaboration: Students will engage in discussions and collaborative activities, using sentence frames to support their communication.

U. S. Colored Troops and the Fall of Richmond

The Lesson teaches the importance of military service for Colored Troops during the Civil War in demonstrating their commitment to this country as (future) citizens. It also demonstrates their role in the Union victory; as the primary source documents clearly demonstrate that the war could not have been won without participation in all “arenas” of the war.
